Sonaiya Tasks Church On Leadership

A FORMER presidential candidate of KOWA Party in the last presidential election, Mrs Remi Sonaiya, has described as a huge shame to the Church, the appellation to Nigeria as the most corrupt nation in the world.
She said this while delivering a lecture at the 17th edition of the Pastor S.A Odunaiya yearly Memorial Public Lecture, organised by Young Men Christian League of the Christ Apostolic Church, Ebute-Metta Zonal Headquarters, Lagos.
Speaking on the topic: ‘The Anti-corruption crusade; what role for the Church?’ she noted that the Church is not teaching what Jesus Christ taught and also not properly choosing its disciple.
She disclosed that the impact of early disciples were felt in the society, such that the testimony given concerning them was that they were people who turned the world upside down.
According to her, great responsibility rests on the shoulders of our leaders. She said her prayers are that God should raise new leaders for the Church in Nigeria; leaders who would faithfully pass on the teachings of Jesus Christ; leaders who would be examples in humility and simplicity, who would not have the trappings of position and not those living in luxury in an environment where 70 per cent of the population is living in poverty.
“We need leaders who would raise their voices in defence of the poor and downtrodden; leaders who speak the truth to power, not hobnobbing with the blood-sucking political class, pronouncing God’s blessings on the unrighteous.”
