Check = Sharp force trauma, injury to jugular veins killed Fadipe, says doctor

A DOCTOR from the Lagos State Teaching Hospital, (LUTH), Dr. S.S. Soyemi yesterday told a Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja that “disruption of jugular veins and sharp force trauma” led to the death of the late human rights crusader, Kunle Fadipe.
Soyemi disclosed this yesterday at the resumed trial of the suspected killer, Seun Oladapo before presiding judge, Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye.
Led in evidence by the prosecution counsel, Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Mrs. Idowu Alakija, the doctor explained to the court he carried out the autopsy with two other doctors.
Giving an account of the findings, he said three major causes that led to the death of lawyer Fadipe included: exsanguination (the process of blood loss, to a degree sufficient to cause death. One does not have to lose all of one’s blood to cause death), disruption of jugular veins and sharp force trauma.
“He was brought in a blue navy boxer with a name tag which bore Alex Kunle Fadipe and the autopsy was carried out on the 10th of July 2014,” Soyemi said.
Soyemi further noted that after his examination, he found out that Fadipe sustained several wounds which included three on his forehead, the side of his head and a deep stab wound towards the left side of his back.
“When the body was opened up, I also discovered that there was loss of blood exsanguination and pellet wounds that are caused as a result of gunshot and they are about sixty-two (62) in number.”
When cross-examined by defence counsel, Mr. Worer Obuagbaka, Soyemi maintained that the late Fadipe sustained several injuries that led to his death.
Justice Ipaye therefore adjourned continuation of trial till December 2, 2015.
It would be recalled that on July 4, 2014 Fadipe was murdered in his home at Harmony Estate, near Karaole Estate, College Road in Ifako Ijaiye Local Government Area, Lagos.
Oladapo was arraigned on five-count charge bordering on murder, robbery and assault occasioning harm contrary to Section 221, 295 (2)(a) and 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.
Part of the charge reads: “Oluwaseun Oladapo on the 4th day of July 2014 at about 0300hr at No 1, Harmony Estate, Ifako-Ijaiye, Iju, Lagos in the Ikeja Judicial Division whilst armed with an offensive weapon, a knife did rob one Kunle Fadipe of a large sum of money and murdered him by stabbing him severally on numerous parts of the body. Murdered one Cecilia Owolabi by stabbing her on the chest, assaulted one Abiola Owolabi and Folahanmi Fadipe by stabbing them with a knife.”
He pleaded not guilty to all the count charges.
